Adams makes attacking changes

Port Vale manager Micky Adams insists he changed his formation against Cheltenham on Saturday in a bid to encourage a more passing approach. Adams ditched his favoured 4-4-2 system in favour of a 3-5-2 wing-back formation after lacklustre draws against Hereford and Gillingham. And although his side were held to a stalemate at Whaddon Road it was a much livelier, attacking display from the Valiants. "We changed the system and went for three centre-halves because we wanted to get a foothold in the game," said Adams. "In the last game the ball went from back to front too quickly and we never encourage that. We want to get people on the ball." Adams will be scouring the loan market for a midfielder this week with Rob Taylor joining Lewis Haldane on the sidelines and Sean Rigg nursing a minor hamstring problem, combined with Jemal Johnson`s return to MK Dons. He said: "We've got problems. Three of our main attacking midfielders were injured on Saturday, so it doesn't take a genius to work out we're short on numbers. "But if I don't bring in a loan player before Saturday we've still got enough, as we had Sam Morsy and Matt Bell on the bench on Saturday."
