Adams defends players after surprise loss
Port Vale boss Micky Adams hit out at reporters who questioned his side's attitude after their shock 1-0 defeat at struggling Morecambe.
Vale`s first defeat in any competition since the start of October came courtesy of Keiran Charnock`s simple finish and saw Chesterfield take over at the top of League Two.
But Adams felt his side had done more than enough to win the game and saw it nothing to do with their mental state.
Referring to Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier`s well-documented post-match interview after Monday`s defeat at Liverpool, Adams flared: "I'm not happy and if you want me to come out here all laughing and smiling like Gerard Houllier you are wrong because I'm sure my fans won't want me to do that.
"You say we weren't up for the game but I will say look at the stats. We had loads of corners, possession and attempts on goal but we didn't take our chances. I think you will find we created enough chances to win two games and if you don't put them away you don't win games of football.
"People are getting carried away with themselves at the minute because we have got to the top of the league. You can't expect to win every game you play and Morecambe are not going to let us win. We have to brush ourselves down now and get ready for our next game against Barnet and look to kick on again."
