In a tribute to Euro 2012 co-host Poland's long-lost footballing glory, lawmakers on Thursday decided to rename the country's new National Stadium after iconic 1970s coach Kazimierz Gorski.
Members of parliament gave unanimous backing to the proposal to honour the memory of Gorski, who died in 2006 at the age of 85.
"We're really happy about this," said Henryk Kasperczak, a Gorski-era defensive midfielder.
"It will be an honour for this wonderful stadium to bear the name of a great manager and a great man," said 65-year-old Kasperczak, who has coached clubs in Poland and France and national teams including Senegal.
The 58,000-capacity National Stadium in the capital Warsaw was purpose-built for the European championship, which Poland is hosting along with neighbouring Ukraine.
