The head of the Polish football federation, Grzegorz Lato, refused to quit on Tuesday, despite calls from the sports minister and in the country's press for him to go after Poland's exit.
"I don't see any reason for me to resign," The 62-year-old said that fresh elections for the head of the federation were already set for October 26, adding that he would wait until the end of Euro 2012 to say whether he would seek another term.
Sports Minister Joanna Mucha had publicly called for Lato to quit on Monday, pointing to his promise to resign were Poland to fail to qualify for the knock-out stages.
"President Lato declared a while ago that if the national team lost, he would submit his resignation. I hope he keeps his word," said Mucha.
