Poland have been hit by a late injury blow ahead of the start of the European Championship finals, with wing-back Jakub Blaszczykowski ruled out with a hamstring problem.
The 22-year-old, who plays his club football in Germany with Borussia Dortmund, sustained the injury in training on Wednesday and will be replaced in Leo Beenhakker's squad by Hertha Berlin forward Lukasz Piszczek.
A spokeswoman for the Polish team confirmed: "A medical examination and a subsequent diagnosis showed it would be impossible for the player to be fit for the group stage.
"Therefore a decision was made to request UEFA to approve the replacement of Jakub Blaszczykowski with Lukasz Piszczek."
Piszczek, 23, has only a handful of caps to his name, having made his Poland debut against Estonia in February.
