Piszczek sidelined for Poland friendlies

Published: 03 Oct 2011 - 19:35:37

Injured Borussia Dortmund defender Lukasz Piszczek on Monday was the fourth Poland player to be sidelined for the Euro 2012 co-hosts' latest friendlies, against South Korea and Belarus.

The German Bundesliga player will be replaced by Hubert Wolakiewicz of Polish top-flight side Lech Poznan, Poland's PZPN football association said.

Earlier on Monday, the PZPN had announced that goalkeeper Grzegorz Sandomierski of Belgian club Genk had been called up to replace injured Wojciech Szczesny of England's Arsenal.

Midfielder Ludovic Obraniak of French champions Lille also had to be left out for Poland's matches against South Korea in Seoul on Friday and Belarus in Wiesbaden, Germany on October 11, it said.

In his place, manager Franciszek Smuda called up Legia Warsaw's Janusz Gol.

Gol was the second Legia player to win an injury-related call-up on Monday, after Smuda tapped defender Marcin Komorowski in place of Arkadiusz Glowacki of Turkish club Trabzonspor.

Like fellow hosts Ukraine, Poland have an automatic berth in next year's tournament and must rely on friendly matches to get ready.
