Euro 2012: The players to look out for - Poland - Robert Lewandowski

Lewandowski was released by Legia Warsaw five years ago and was forced to ply his trade in the Polish third division.

Lewandowski scored his fair share for Znicz Pruzkow over two seasons and was swiftly transferred to Lech Poznan where he gained recognition. In his first season he was second on the goal scoring charts and his second season at Poznan he netted 18 league goals in 28 appearances which attracted interest from bigger clubs.

Borussia Dortmund signed the striker for $4.5 million in June 2010. In his first season he scored 8 league goals in 33 appearances and Dortmund lifted the title. Lewandowski enjoyed more time starting for Dortmund this season and netted 22 league goals in 34 games which saw him finish as third top scorer in the Bundesliga.

He was named Bundesliga player of the season and scored no goals from the penalty spot and claimed six assists on his way.

Lewandowski is being tracked by Manchester United who have recently signed team mate Shinji Kagawa from Dortmund.

If Poland are to get out of group A and qualify for the knockout stages a lot will rely on the 23 year old.
