    Beenhakker retains slim hope

    16 Jun 2008 - 10:35:03

Poland coach Leo Beenhakker believes his side can still qualify for the quarter-finals despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Austria last week.

His side need the combination of a convincing win against Croatia and a shock victory for Austria over Germany to progress to the last eight.

"This is not the time to analyse whether we took the right players to the tournament as we are completely focused on our task of beating Croatia by two clear goals," said Beenhakker.

"We have to do our job and hope the result of the other match between Austria and Germany goes our way.

"We still we have a lingering hope of sneaking into the last eight through the back door and we are confident that we can get the result we need.

"On the other hand, there is no point in thinking what might happen in Vienna because that game is out of our control. It's an unfortunate situation for us but we have to deal with it.

"I extended my contract until the 2010 World Cup finals recently and there is no reason to discuss my future at this point in time.

"My first option is to honour my contract and, if we need to, we will sit down and talk with cool heads after Euro 2008 because my only concern now is to beat Croatia."
