Beenhakker remains upbeat

09 Jun 2008 - 07:51:55

Leo Beenhakker thought his Poland side had the chances to take something from their opening Group B clash against Germany.

The Poles eventually crashed to a 2-0 defeat thanks to a brace by Poland-born Lucas Podolski at the Worthersee Stadion, but Beenhakker was content with much of his team's work.

He said after the loss: "There was a moment in the second half where we were totally dominating the game.

"But it was over after the second goal. We played for 70 minutes at the same level as them. The last 20 minutes we want to forget.

"Everybody was upset about the result and not happy, but we are still in the tournament and that's what it's all about.

"We have three or four days to recover physically and mentally and it's part of being a professional.

"Everybody is a bit upset now. On Monday we will see how the team is, then we will start up again. Knowing these guys are mentally strong and, against Austria, they will be ready."
