Sturrock shrugs off pressure
30 Sep 2009 - 13:45:39
Manager Paul Sturrock shrugged off all the talk of pressure after Plymouth Argyle won their first game of the season on Tuesday night.
Goals from Jamie Mackie and Rory Fallon secured a 2-1 victory at Peterborough United to ease the pressure on the experienced manager.
"I am 52 years old and have been there, done that and got the T-shirt," said Sturrock.
"Pressure is part of being a football manager and is something you have to accept. Everyone in football is judged on results and we haven't been getting them.
"We could have done without a lot of other teams down there picking up good results as well, but the challenge now is to take the momentum forward and build on this success.
"We have brought a lot of quality players into the club and tried all sorts of different systems, but I decided to go back to being horrible and effective - and thankfully it worked."
