Reid bemoans defensive woes

Plymouth manager Peter Reid was left rueing his side's lacklustre defending as they fell to a 2-0 home defeat against Brighton.Argyle conceded both goals in the opening half as Ashley Barnes followed Tommy Elphick's opener to earn Gus Poyet's men the three points, much to the dismay of opposite number Reid."We could have prevented the goals," said the former Sunderland boss. "It was poor defending by us to let the free-kick, come across the floor, flat and be put in and it was equally poor that we allowed the cross in for their second goal."On both occasions the ball should have been cleared. I said after Saturday's win (against Sheffield Wednesday) that I was looking for consistency and, after this defeat, I am still looking for it - and it's frustrating to say the least."We played better in the second half but those two goals in the first half meant we were chasing the game."Basic defending has let us down in the first half, even though they had a lot of ball in the first half, those two goals from our point of view were very poor."
