Pilgrims reward for Fallon
07 Jan 2009 - 12:38:26
Striker Rory Fallon has signed a new contract with Plymouth Argyle to keep him at the club until the end of the 2010-11 season.
Fallon's current contract was due to expire at the end of this season, but some exceptional form as Argyle's frontman persuaded manager Paul Sturrock to hand the New Zealander a new deal.
"I've just signed a new two-year deal and I'm happy," said Fallon. "Hopefully in the next two years we could be in the Premier League, you just don't know."
Fallon has scored 13 goals in 74 appearances for Plymouth since signing in the January 2007 transfer window.
The big Kiwi cost £300,000 when bought from Swansea City by former Pilgrims manager Ian Holloway.
Meanwhile, the club are also locked in negotiations in an attempt to bring Japanese international Akihiro Ienaga to Home Park.
Sturrock is keen to make Ienaga a Pilgrim after the Gamba Osaka player impressed on a two-week trial in December.
The club are hoping to resolve the issue to sign the player, who is still under contract to the J-League club. Ienaga will also need to obtain a work permit before being the green light to play in England.
Sturrock said of the Ienaga deal: "We are discussing all sorts of things with his agent, the club and everything else and that is as far as it has gone so far."
