Mariner hails fighting spirit
17 Feb 2010 - 15:37:20
Plymouth Argyle manager Paul Mariner has commended his players after they ground out a 1-1 draw against Swansea City on Tuesday evening.
The Pilgrims are now five points away from the Championship safety mark.
Damien Johnson score a late equaliser for the hosts, following in after his penalty was saved by Swans keeper Dorus de Vries, after Darren Pratley had opened the scoring.
After Plymouth grabbed an excellent win on Saturday, Mariner is delighted with the strides his players are making.
He said: "We are obviously delighted with a point.
"Swansea are a quality team and Paulo Sousa has got some beautiful technicians out there.
"They spray the ball around very well and they did their homework on us because they weren't defending a high line, so we couldn't get in behind them.
"But to go a goal down and then show that fighting spirit, is spectacular for us.
"My hat goes off to the lads again for being so resilient, after being on the road at the weekend and coming back from a goal down at Barnsley."
