Holloway snubs Gulls swoop

Plymouth Argyle boss Ian Holloway has snubbed an approach from Torquay United to take central defender Gary Sawyer on loan as he is needed as cover at Home Park.

The League Two side wanted to take Sawyer to Plainmoor ahead of this Thursday's loan deadline but, as Pilgrims centre-half Mat Doumbe is struggling with a knee problem, Holloway is reluctant to let the 21-year-old leave.

He said: "If I loaned him out I'd lose him for 28 days and I need him as cover.

"He was wanted by Torquay (on loan) and I might have done that because it is all about his development.

"Going to Exeter for the past two seasons on loan has brought him on leaps and bounds."
