First goal pleases MacLean

Plymouth Argyle's record signing Steven MacLean was delighted to open his goalscoring account for the club in the 3-0 home win against Barnsley in midweek.

The 25-year-old joined the Pilgrims for £500,000 from Cardiff City last month and it took him five games to get off the mark for his new club.

He told the Evening Herald: "It is always nice to score that first goal, it is a milestone. As a striker getting off the mark is important, as it can maybe eat away at you until you do it.

"So it was nice, but the most important thing was the result. Getting three points was first and foremost.

"I think since I came here all I have been missing is goals. I would like to think my all-round play has been good, but it was just nice to get the goal as well."
