Capaldi setback for Pilgrims

Thursday Sep 29 2005 10:55

Plymouth Argyle have been rocked by the news that defender Tony Capaldi suffered a broken leg during the 3-2 defeat at Ipswich Town.

The Northern Ireland international was forced out of the action at Portman Road after just 14 minutes, with subsequent tests revealing a fractured fibula.

Capaldi will be sidelined for at least a month, giving manager Bobby Williamson an unwanted selection problem.

"We think he will be out for a minimum of four weeks," Williamson told the club's official website.

"Obviously it's a huge blow for the club, as well as for Tony himself."

The news means that the 23-year-old will also miss Northern Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Austria at Windsor Park on October 13, as well as the clash with Azerbaijan four days earlier which he would have missed through suspension anyway.
