Argyle play down transfer ban
15 Dec 2009 - 10:24:24
Plymouth Argyle are the latest club to have been placed under a transfer embargo by the Football League.
The Pilgrims, who are struggling to avoid relegation from the Championship this season, have been banned from signing any new players as a punishment for failing to pay their debts.
Argyle have said it is a technicality and claim the situation will be cleared up by the end of the month.
The club's executive director, Keith Todd, said: "There is a temporary embargo but it has no bearing on our transfers.
"We will be in the market in January in the normal course of events. It relates to a historical issue and a technicality. It is not a problem.
"It is just an issue which needs to be resolved.
"It will get resolved and we will be fully in the market in January. It will be cleared. It is unfortunate that it has happened but it is absolutely not an issue.
"It has not affected how we operate and will not affect us in January."
Last week the club decided to move Paul Sturrock out of the managerial role to make way for Paul Mariner.
