Summerfield, who played for the Greens between 1984-90 and had been Paul Sturrock's assistant since 2001 at Argyle, Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday and Swindon, had been told his contract would not be renewed at the end of the season.[LNB]Former Plymouth striker Paul Mariner, who scored 56 goals in 135 appearances for the Pilgrims during the 1970s, has recently been linked with a return to Home Park.[LNB]A club statement read: "The Plymouth Argyle board has been working with manager Paul Sturrock on the shape and structure of the club's football management team, within the framework of a five-year plan designed to fulfil the ambition of bringing Premier League football to Home Park. It was agreed that refreshing the approach to coaching would be an important and beneficial first step along this road.[LNB]"After a partnership of more than eight years between Paul and Kevin, it was generally felt the time was right, both for Kevin and for the club, for a change of scenario.[LNB]"Paul Sturrock will naturally continue as team manger and lead the work to complete the review of all aspects of the football side of the club, including coaching, training facilities, the scouting system, medical and physiotherapy and youth football. Further changes will be announced in due course after completion of the review."[LNB][LNB]
