Graham Carey earns Plymouth victory over Notts County

Playmaker Graham Carey swept home his ninth goal of the season as promotion-chasing Plymouth beat Notts County 1-0 in League Two.

Gregg Wylde swept down the left and his pinpoint cross was finished first-time by attacking midfielder Carey past County keeper Roy Carroll on 47 minutes.

Seconds earlier, Wylde had forced a near-post save from captain Carroll as Plymouth started the second half on the front foot after a quiet first 45 minutes.

Jon Stead had the best opportunity to break the deadlock in the first half but the County striker's far-post shot was cleared off the line by Plymouth central defender Peter Hartley on 14 minutes.

On 39 minutes Elliott Hewitt's audacious 30-yard free-kick nearly deceived home keeper Luke McCormick as it dipped on to the face of the crossbar before McCormick flapped the ball to safety.

County had better chances in the first half but found Plymouth a different, improved proposition in the second, with Wylde, Carey and Craig Tanner in top form.

Carroll denied Tanner with a superb save after the speedy winger was put in on goal by Carey's defence-splitting pass but Plymouth had done the damage.
