John McCombe bagged a brace as 10-man Plymouth were hammered 4-0 by York.

The hosts played the majority of the match with 10 men after Neal Trotman was dismissed 11 minutes in and McCombe's brace came either side of Wes Fletcher's penalty and Josh Carson's late strike.

The visitors went ahead in the 12th minute when Argyle central defender Trotman tangled with Ryan Bowman. Referee Charles Breakspear immediately awarded a penalty and, after consideration, dismissed Trotman. Fletcher then sent goalkeeper Jake Cole the wrong way from the spot.

The home side did well despite their numerical disadvantage but conceded a second in first-half injury-time when Bowman teed up McCombe to head home from close range.

Conor Hourihane forced a save from Nick Pope in the opening minutes of the second half, but York made the most of their man advantage to control the match.

Only fine saves by Cole prevented Will Hayhurst or Michael Coulson from making it three before McCombe did just that by stabbing home following a corner and Carson put the icing on the cake in the dying moments.
