Plymouth coach Paul Mariner has been allowed to leave the club. Mariner, who was manager of the Pilgrims as they fell out of the Championship last season, asked to leave Argyle on Thursday to pursue other opportunities. The club have allowed the 57-year-old to depart Home Park, ending his 12-month association with the Devon outfit. A statement on Argyle's website confirmed they had released Mariner from the terms of his contract amicably and it read: "Paul Mariner has asked the club if he can be released from his contract of employment as he has another opportunity that he wishes to pursue. "Given the outstanding relationship that Paul has with this football club, we have therefore agreed to release him from his contract and wish him all the very best for the future." Mariner took over from former manager Paul Sturrock in December 2009 with Plymouth second bottom in the Championship, but he has unable to prevent them falling into League One. The club brought in Peter Reid as boss, with Mariner continuing in a coaching role.
