Letheren looking to oust Larrieu

The 22-year-old was released by Barnsley at the end of last season, but was snapped up on a short-term contract by the Pilgrims after the club's previous reserve keeper Lloyd Saxton was ruled out for an extended period with a wrist injury. Letheren knows he faces a difficult task to try to replace Larrieu, who was the Pilgrims' Player of the Year in 2008/09, but he is determined to show manager Paul Sturrock his abilities in training. "I really wanted to go somewhere and play football and I couldn't turn down this opportunity," Letheren said. "But I'm not just here to sit on the bench. I'm here to give Larrieu a bit of competition for his place. "Obviously, he has got more experience than I have, but if I ever get called upon I will have to grab the chance with both hands."
