Lawrence wants Nugent stay

Liam Lawrence admits he is desperate to see striker David Nugent stay at Portsmouth next season. The midfielder is keen to see the former England man extend his Fratton Park career beyond his current contract, which expires in the summer. Negotiations between the club and Nugent's representatives appear to have been put off until the end of the season, but Lawrence is hoping that his team-mate will eventually sign a new deal. "Nuge is fantastic. He's a great lad, he's a good player and a player we are going to need here," he told The Portsmouth News. "I'd love the club and him to get something sorted out with the contract. It's just something between him and the club but I hope they get it sorted because we definitely need him next year." Lawrence made his return to first team action with a substitute appearance in Saturday's 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough after a calf strain had kept him sidelined for three weeks. "I was a bit tired because I only trained on Friday. When you've not trained for three weeks it takes it out of you," he added.
