Plymouth midfielder Damien Johnson has retired from international football after winning 56 caps for Northern Ireland. Johnson, now 31, made his debut in a friendly against the Republic of Ireland in May 1999 and last represented his country last October in a World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic. Johnson said: "It hasn't been an easy decision for me to make but, with the help of my family, I feel it is the best decision for my career. "I'd particularly like to thank (Northern Ireland manager) Nigel Worthington for his support and understanding over the last couple of weeks. I wish Nigel and the team every success in the forthcoming European Championships."
