Kedwell shoots down Argyle

Danny Kedwell bagged his first goals in Gillingham colours - both from the spot - as Andy Hessenthaler's men got back to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over 10-man Plymouth.

Kedwell, who netted 24 goals to help AFC Wimbledon into the Football League last season, struck from 12 yards on 74 minutes, after Ben Gibson handled in the box and received a second yellow card for doing so, before adding another injury-time penalty.

Luke Rooney had already made the points safe with a second with four minutes remaining as Gillingham chalked up their third win in four matches this season, and moved up to third.

Lewis Montrose squandered a good early chance to put Gillingham ahead, while Luke Daley's deflected shot nearly put the visitors into the lead in the first half.

Charlie Lee and Kedwell then both also wasted good opportunities for the Gills, while Argyle's Curtis Nelson saw his shot on the stroke of half-time comfortably saved by Ross Flitney.

But when Gibson handled Curtis Weston's header, Kedwell made no mistake and substitute Rooney lashed home late on before the ex-Dons forward doubled his tally when Simon Walton felled Dennis Oli in time added on.
