The 27-year-old won a penalty and later scored with a 45th-minute header in the All Whites' 3-1 win over Jordan on Wednesday.
New Zealand coach Ricki Herbert was "delighted" with the big striker's performance.
"There were a lot of things outside of his control, but his stature and height gives us options. I was delighted. Scoring on his debut is a big coup for him," Herbert said.
The victory means New Zealand will play Bahrain over two legs in the Asia-Oceania play-off.
