Dons want MacLean on free transfer

MacLean joined Argyle from Cardiff in January 2008 for a then club-record fee of £500,000 but has fallen out of favour under Paul Sturrock.[LNB]The 27-year-old has made just four appearances for the Pilgrims this season and has not played in the first team since mid-September.[LNB]The former Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday player was linked with a move to Pittodrie back in August but it never materialised as Aberdeen could not match his wages.[LNB]However, McGhee is hopeful a deal can be resurrected and said: "Apparently Steven has been told he can leave Plymouth on a free.[LNB]"But free does not always mean free because he still has a contract and if they don't pay up in full, someone else will have to match what he is currently on.[LNB]"If Plymouth pay him up and allow him to go, then certainly he is a player we would consider."[LNB][LNB]
