Egan injury distracts from Bantams win

Promotion hopefuls Bradford earned a scrappy 1-0 win against struggling Plymouth but the match was marred by a serious injury to the Bantams` on-loan central defender John Egan.

The 21-year-old Irishman was stretchered off with broken right leg in the 12th minute when he fell awkwardly after heading the ball.

Ten minutes later Gary Jones scored the winning goal when right-back Stephen Darby hoisted the ball into the goalmouth and it eventually fell to the unmarked captain, who fired home from ten yards out.

Plymouth, who went into the match having lost five of their previous six matches, came close to equalising in first-half stoppage time when Nick Chadwick headed the ball down for the unmarked Jamie Lowry, but keeper Matt Duke superbly saved his fiercely struck shot.

The visitors missed another good chance five minutes after half-time when Alex MacDonald raced on to Chadwick's flicked pass but shot rashly wide of the far post.
