Argyle admire Iceman's cool style

The 26-year-old played the second half of Monday night's 2-0 victory over Southern Premier outfit Truro City at Treyew Road. Argyle won the match - their first friendly ahead of the 2009/10 Championship campaign - thanks to goals from Jason Puncheon (32) and Ashley Barnes (58). Young Pilgrims goalkeeper Lloyd Saxton was the only player to complete the full 90 minutes, with regular number one Romain Larrieu deemed unfit. Sturrock elected to use two different outfield starting line-ups, with both employed in a new-look 4-3-1-2 formation. In the first period, second-year apprentice Ryan Leonard lined up at right-back but the rest of the team was made up of senior professionals. Puncheon netted with a 20-yard shot following a knock-down from Steven MacLean. MacLean featured alongside fellow Aberdeen transfer target Jim Paterson, with both expected to move to Pittodrie on loan later this week. Arnason - the only man retained from a host of hopefuls who played in a special trial match at Argyle's Harper's Park training ground on Sunday - was introduced after the break at the base of the midfield diamond. Tall and composed, he impressed Sturrock with his positional sense and distribution and although his fitness levels need improving, he is on track to winning a deal with the Pilgrims. Sturrock told the Evening Herald: "He showed signs that he is very competent, he reads the game well, he is big and athletic, he never let himself down in anyway - I was very pleased with him." Arnason has spent the last two seasons playing in the Danish Superliga, initially with Aarhus but then with Esbjerg. He has won 15 caps for his country and is currently a free agent. Argyle made sure of victory when Barnes netted with a header from Chris Clark's right-wing cross in the second half. The Pilgrims will send another squad of players to Bolitho Park on Tuesday night to take on Plymouth Parkway, while Torquay United are the opponents at Plainmoor on Wednesday.
