Greig Spence goal lifts Cowdenbeath off the bottom

Cowdenbeath moved off the foot of Ladbrokes League One with a surprise 1-0 win at second-placed Peterhead.

Dean Brett had the best of the early chances for Cowdenbeath, unleashing a fierce shot that flew inches over the crossbar.

Rory McAllister's curling free-kick brought a superb save from visiting goalkeeper Grant Adam in the 26th minute, and it was Cowdenbeath who took the lead shortly afterwards. Lewis Milne's pass set Greig Spence clear and he slotted home.

Peterhead's Jordon Brown was not too far away with a well-struck drive before the break and substitute James Stevenson brought another decent stop from Adam with a powerful free-kick.

A McAllister free-kick was turned away by Adam and Stevenson fired over as Peterhead pushed for a late leveller, but it was Cowdenbeath who came closest to a second goal when Spence hit a post.
