Peterborough United boss Mark Wright has moved quickly to sign Paul Carden after the defensive midfielder was released by Chester City.
Wright knows Carden well from his successful spell in charge at the Deva Stadium and while surprised by Chester's decision to allow their captain to leave, was delighted he agreed to sign a two-year contract with the Posh.
"Paul is one of the best defensive midfield players I have seen and did a fantastic job for us at Chester," Wright told the club's official website.
"He breaks things up, chases players down and always gives 100 per cent.
"There are certain parts of his game that we need to improve on, but he doesn't understand the word defeat and they are the sort of players we need to be bringing to this football club.
"He has leadership qualities, is tough tackling and I am delighted that he has agreed to sign for Peterborough."
Carden, 26, is a veteran of more than 230 League and Conference games during two spells with Chester and stays with Doncaster Rovers, Blackpool and Rochdale.
