Posh switch striking attentions
29 Jun 2009 - 11:39:38
Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry has confirmed that the club have tabled a bid for a new striker after failing in bids for two other players.
Livingston forward Leigh Griffiths was thought to be heading for London Road for a fee of £200,000, after verbally agreeing to join the Championship new-boys.
However, cash-strapped Livingston also accepted a much smaller bid for the player from Scottish Division One side Dundee, for whom Griffiths snubbed Peterborough to join.
Fry told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph: "I don't mind admitting we bid £200,000, which is a lot of money for a teenager.
"Both him and his agent told me he was desperate to come down to England but now we find that he is moving to another club in Scotland for half of that which makes a mockery of things.
"I've heard his club Livingston are so skint that the electricity has been switched off, yet they sell him for that money."
However, Fry has quickly turned his focus to bring in a different face to the club.
"We have already gone elsewhere and have made a bid for another striker," he added.
"He is a Football League player and it will be a permanent deal if it happens."
