Posh pledge to retain stars
24 Oct 2008 - 11:04:01
Peterborough United have placed a £5million price tag on the head of in-form striker Craig Mackail-Smith.
Posh's ten-goal leading marksman has been linked with a possible move to the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion, but Fry is determined to keep the 24-year-old at the ambitious League One club.
"The bottom line is if anyone bids £5million for any player they'd probably be allowed to leave, but the reality is no-one will bid that much so they'll stay," Fry told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.
"The chairman wants to go up, it's as simple as that, and if we let our best players go, that might not happen.
"I'm sure there will be ten clubs interested in signing Craig, Aaron McLean and George Boyd in January, but they won't be successful.
"In Craig's case he's just signed a four-year contract, he's buying a house in Peterborough and he's very happy at the club.
"We believe the players will achieve their ambition of playing Championship football here."
