Posh increase Bennett bid
11 Jun 2009 - 15:39:35
Championship new boys Peterborough United have submitted an increased offer for Grimsby Town captain Ryan Bennett.
Director of football, Barry Fry, has confirmed that the Posh are ready to unleash another raid on Blundell Park with a higher bid for the defender.
Grimsby described Peterborough's original offer for the player as 'derisory'.
"We've upped our original bid," confirmed Fry. "We're now just waiting to get a response to our improved offer.
"We love to bring in young and hungry players who are eager to learn and want to improve themselves at this club, so Bennett does fit the mould in that sense.
"We're going to try to bring him in, but Grimsby feel they've got an asset in the lad and they don't want him to go cheap, which is fair.
"We've now put in a big bid, which isn't cheap by any means and hopefully we'll get our man, but if we don't then we'll just move on to other targets."
The former Ipswich Town youth team product has amassed an impressive 94 appearances for the Mariners at the age of just 19.
