Lewis modest after heroics

14 Feb 2008 - 13:34:27

Peterborough United goalkeeper Joe Lewis refused to take the credit for Wednesday's 2-1 victory over Chesterfield.

After keeping out Peter Leven's spot-kick deep into injury time to preserve Posh's lead, the highly-rated keeper responded modestly.

"I will be given the plaudits no doubt, but it was a good team performance and everybody should take the credit," he said.

"I do think it would have been a travesty had we not won the match because I felt we dominated for long periods in the 90 minutes."

The England Under-21 international made a stunning save diving low to his left after Tom Williams had brought down Jack Lester.

Under-21 manager Stuart Pearce was in the stands during the game and will have been impressed with what he had witnessed.

Lewis continued: "I feel I am playing well now, it took me a little while to settle in if I am honest.

"It was nice to see Stuart Pearce in the stands and I hope he stayed until the end."
