League One FTBpro PFA Fan Player Of The Year Contender: Britt Assombalonga - Peterborough United
Peterborough fans have waved a sad good-bye to a number of goalscoring heroes in recent years – namely Craig Mackail-Smith, Aaron McLean and Dwight Gayle – but they have found a new one in the shape of Britt Assombalonga.
The Posh striker smashed in 33 goals as Posh reached the play-offs, only to be denied by Leyton Orient in the semi finals, and supporters are hoping the club will ignore overtures from Premier League predators.
Peterborough Director of Football Barry Fry insists he is under orders to find a new strike partner for Assombalonga rather than sell him, even though three Premier League clubs have made enquiries about a 21 year-old forward who has become a firm favourite at London Road.
“We are not interested in selling Britt,” Fry said. “It would have to be a ridiculous offer to make us even think about it. We could be offered £5 million and we wouldn’t be interested.
“I’ve spoken to Britt’s agent and the player is happy with us. He has four years left on his contract and the plan is to find help for Britt not to sell him. What he did last year for a young striker was incredible.
“He played 58 times and with better service next season maybe he can get to 40 goals. Three Premier League clubs have shown an interest, but I’ve told them we are not interested in a sale”
Voting is now open for the League One FTBpro PFA Fans' Player of the Year award and fans can cast their votes at http://www.football.co.uk/pfa-fans-player-of-the-month/index.shtml
