    Ferguson rues Martin mistake

    28 Oct 2009 - 11:48:08

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson was left to rue a moment of madness which cost his side dear in their 5-2 Carling Cup defeat at Blackburn Rovers.

A poor back-pass by Russell Martin led to goalkeeper Joe Lewis being sent off for bringing down Morten Gamst Pedersen, with ten-man Posh unable to keep their Premier League hosts at bay after that point.

Ferguson told the Evening Telegraph: "That one terrible decision from Russell changed the whole complexion of the game.

"The referee made his decision to send off Joe very quickly even though he was doing his best to get out of the way of their player.

"Up until that point we had been very competitive and I felt we had a good chance of going through, but the sending-off changed that.

"We played some really good stuff at times and this certainly wasn't the annihilation the scoreline might suggest."
