Whelpdale set for wing role

The arrival of Mark Little from Wolves will release Whelpdale from the right-back role where he has deputised in recent weeks. Reuben Reid had slotted ahead of the 23-year-old on the wing, but a recent injury has forced Gannon into a reshuffle.[LNB]Gannon believes Whelpdale has a lot of potential and told the club's official website: "Chris has done well at right-back for us, but he can also play on the right-hand side of midfield too.[LNB]"Mark's arrival allows him to be used a little further forward. Chris showed at Swansea late on that he can get crosses into the box and beat the full-back, and his emphasis will be on attack."[LNB]The signing of Little adds a touch of Premier League quality to the Championship strugglers, and the former Stockport boss knows just how big a role his new signing can play.[LNB]"Mark is a player I know very well," Gannon added. "I've seen him play for Wolves at this level. He is a solid right-back who can extend and get forward and I'm sure once he gets some matches under his belt we will see him both defend well but also get forward and support the attack."[LNB][LNB]
