Town chief puzzled by speculation
Former Mariners defender McDermott, who made over 600 appearances in 20 years at the club, has reportedly advised the highly-rated Bennett to leave the club this summer after he attracted interest from Championship-bound Peterborough.
"I've been told that John is intimating that Ryan should consider leaving the football club before the season starts," Fenty told
the club's official website.
"That's an interesting comment, why he should come to that conclusion Lord only knows.
"The facts are that there hasn't been a bid for Ryan. I'm a little bit confused as to what kind of advice that constitutes from John."
