Posh hopeful on Zakuani fitness

Peterborough manager Gary Johnson is confident Gabriel Zakuani will be fit in time for the start of the forthcoming npower League One campaign. The defender is still recovering from groin surgery but should return in time for the opening game of the season against Bristol Rovers on August 7. Johnson still feels he needs more competition for places in defence and is due to make a decision on the futures of on-trial defenders Franck Queudrue and Liam Chilvers by the end of this week. But Zakuani's return would provide a timely boost for Johnson and he told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph: "We also need to get Gaby Zakuani fit because he is a proven defender at League One level. "His recovery seems to be taking a while which is frustrating both for him and us, but he will be right for the start of the season. "I think Kelvin Langmead will be a really good signing for us. He is a strong leader and young Ryan Bennett is gaining experience all the time."
