Duo banned for Posh

Peterborough begin 2014 at home to Brentford but Posh will be without Hogan Ephraim and Lee Tomlin against the League One leaders.

Ephraim's straight red card against Carlisle on Sunday looks to have spelt the end of the midfielder's loan spell from QPR as it carries a three-match suspension, while forward Tomlin will serve a one-game ban on New Year's Day after he received his fifth yellow card of the season during the defeat at Brunton Park.

Senior players Gaby Zakuani, Tyrone Barnett, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Kane Ferdinand will hope to come back into the reckoning after they were all left out of the 18-man squad at Carlisle, with youth-team defender Liam Marshall preferred on the substitutes' bench to Zakuani.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson said: "No one was injured apart from the long-term ones. I picked the squad I felt was best suited to winning the game and I will do the same thing against Brentford."

New leaders Brentford will be without George Saville.

The on-loan Chelsea midfielder was shown his fifth yellow card of the season during Sunday's 3-1 win over MK Dons and serves a one-match ban.

Winger Kadeem Harris and striker Will Grigg remain sidelined with hamstring problems but manager Mark Warburton has no new injury concerns.

With his side 3-0 up, Warburton had the luxury of being able to take off midfielder Adam Forshaw and right-back Alan McCormack with half an hour to go so they should be fresh to face Posh.
