Tomlin banned for bottom-of-the-table clash

Peterborough will be without Lee Tomlin when they host managerless Barnsley.

Tomlin will be suspended when the only team below Posh in the npower Championship table visit London Road on New Year's Day.

The 23-year-old was shown a straight red card after just 12 minutes on Saturday for elbowing Bristol City defender Greg Cunningham as Peterborough's three-game winning run crashed to a halt with a 4-2 defeat at Ashton Gate.

Tomlin will begin a three-match ban with Danny Swanson the man most likely to replace him in the starting line up against the Tykes.

The only change to the Posh side against Bristol City saw Grant McCann replace George Thorne in midfield after the teenager was recalled from his loan spell by parent club West Brom on Friday.

Barnsley will be without on-loan striker Marcus Tudgay for the clash due to a suspected broken collarbone.

Tudgay, on loan from Nottingham Forest, was stretchered off late on in Saturday's home defeat to Blackburn, which signalled the departure of manager Keith Hill after the Tykes slipped to the bottom of the table.

Marlon Harewood is expected to partner Craig Davies up front in Tudgay's absence as on-loan Emile Sinclair, who returned to the substitutes' bench against Blackburn following a dead-leg, is unlikely to play against his parent club.

Teenager Reuben Noble-Lazarus is pushing for a recall to the starting line-up after an ankle injury, but midfielders Jacob Mellis (dead-leg) and Akos Buzsaky (hamstring), plus defender Martin Cranie (ankle) are expected to miss out again.

Midfielder David Perkins is hoping to continue after recovering from a hamstring problem as Barnsley, who have asked assistant boss David Flitcroft to take charge of the side, chase only their second win in 15 matches.
