Posh held by in-form Latics

Marcus Maddison hit one glorious goal and was denied two more by the woodwork as Peterborough were held 2-2 by Oldham.

The visitors hit the front just six minutes in at London Road as Jonathan Forte converted a fine Danny Philliskirk delivery.

Maddison guided a 25-yard drive against an upright moments later but Posh soon levelled in spectacular style as Michael Bostwick marked his return from a seven-week injury lay-off with a low long-range blast that went in off the post in the 18th minute.

Only a goalline clearance from James Wilson, which thwarted Conor Washington, prevented the hosts from hitting the front late in the first half, but they did go ahead early in the second period as Maddison earned and converted a 51st-minute free-kick.

But they failed to hold on as Oldham stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches courtesy of Genseric Kusunga's leveller.

The Swiss defender, whose only previous league goal for the Latics also arrived against Posh last season, struck with a bullet header from Mike Jones' corner.

Both teams threatened to snatch victory with no-one coming closer than Maddison who struck the post with 10 minutes to go.
