Stormy weather the only winner

There was little to love on Valentine's Day as play-off rivals Peterborough and Walsall battled out an attritional goalless draw in appalling conditions at London Road.

A dreadful surface and fierce wind combined to ensure a poor spectacle in which chances were few and far between.

On-loan Walsall striker Michael Ngoo squandered the best opportunity when steering a free header from Febian Brandy's corner straight at goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik.

Brandy and Sam Mantom were also denied by smart saves from the home goalkeeper as Walsall finished the first half strongly, while Brandy also blazed a powerful late shot over the crossbar.

It took Posh until early in the second period to muster a shot on goal as Michael Bostwick saw two long-range efforts kept out in the space of a minute.

Walsall goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell was also equal to a swerving Danny Swanson shot before also clutching top-scorer Britt Assombalonga's rebound.

Posh, who handed debuts to loan recruits Ben Nugent and Josh McQuoid, the latter being sent on as a second-half substitute, stay in possession of the final play-off spot.
