Johnson thought Boyd would leave

Peterborough manager Gary Johnson has admitted that he expected forward George Boyd to leave London Road this summer. Boyd was loaned out to Nottingham Forest at the end of last season as Posh slid to relegation from the Championship and looked certain to depart the club before the new campaign. But the 24-year-old has now signed a three-year contract to stay with Posh and leave Johnson a happy man. Johnson said: "You don't want to lose any of your quality players and George is certainly one of those. "I thought we would probably lose him, but he has realised that our ambitions are all the same in that we want to reach the Championship and stay there. "He is one of many good signings we have now made this summer."
