Johnson calls for Posh to build up a head of steam

Peterborough boss Gary Johnson believes Friday night`s 2-1 victory over Rochdale will provide the perfect pick-me-up for his side ahead of what is always a hectic Christmas period. Aaron Mclean and Craig Mackail-Smith masterminded Dale's downfall with a goal apiece to take their respective totals for the season so far to 14, making Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro`s late volley mere consolation. It was Posh`s first league victory since the beginning of November, and Johnson said: "There is no doubt we deserved to win the game and the final scoreline makes it look closer than it actually was. "We were good value for a clean sheet and we certainly should have had it because the Rochdale lad blatantly handled the ball before scoring. Everyone in the ground apart from the two that matter, the referee and linesman, knew that. "Now we have to take the confidence and level of performance we showed in this game forward into a key period in the season. There are lots of points up for grabs at Christmas when the games come thick and fast and we need to get ourselves going in the right direction again." Johnson also confirmed Posh are keen to extend the loan of Leeds midfielder Adam Clayton beyond its initial month, but left-back Marcus Williams will return to Reading after his temporary stay at London Road ended.
