Ferguson dismisses Fry job claims

Ferguson left the club by mutual consent on Tuesday, after they slipped to the foot of the Championship.[LNB]The 37-year-old's dismissal raised eyebrows after he guided the club to back-to-back promotions from League Two to the second tier, and Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony called a press conference on Wednesday afternoon to insist the decision was mutual.[LNB]But after it was revealed that the decision wastaken following a meeting with director of football Barry Fry on Sunday, the vocal former London Road manager let slip that he expects Ferguson to be at another club within days.[LNB]Fry said: "I think Darren will get a job very soon, and my own personal opinion is that he already has one.[LNB]"He will get a chance at a big club and he will do very well. There is no doubt about that.[LNB]"Every day there is a different club linked with him - so he will be all right. There will be nobody more delighted if Darren manages a Premier League club successfully than us."[LNB]But in a statement issued through the League Managers' Association, Ferguson insists such claims are false.[LNB]He said: "Unfortunately, Barry Fry has today intimated that I already have a new position in place.[LNB]"I can categorically confirm that is 100 per cent untrue. However, these comments have not impacted upon my feelings towards my time at Peterborough United, the players, the chairman and the support.[LNB]"Three years ago Kevin Russell and I arrived at Peterborough United, a League Two club; we left yesterday, having taken them to the Championship, and we wish the club all the best for the future of the club."[LNB]MacAnthony expects to appoint a successor by the end of the week, and admitted he was disappointed to see assistant Russell follow Ferguson out of the door.[LNB]He said: "Kevin 'walked' this morning, and my initial reaction was that he must have another job lined up - because he is a family man. But we will see.[LNB]"I know he is very loyal to Darren.[LNB]"It is a shame, because he is a great coach, but he didn't want to be considered for the job at all."[LNB][LNB]
