Maxwell faces surgery woe

Veteran St Mirren defender Ian Maxwell faces around three months on the sidelines after being forced to undergo surgery on a knee injury.
The 32-year-old has yet to feature this season, but now faces even more time out of action as rest and pain-killing injections have failed to cure the problem in his right knee.
Maxwell told the Paisley Express: "I've had the injections then rested it, but for whatever reason it's not settled down and we have to go down the road of surgery.
"I think I picked up the injury when I was running in pre-season, because when I went to see the surgeon he said that it was common for hill runners to get this type of problem.
"He seemed confident at the time that a four-week rest would settle it down, but it's not happened, so I'm looking at around eight weeks after the operation before I can even start running again."
