Ayr and Partick played out an entertaining goalless draw at Somerset Park.

Partick defender Aaron Sinclair fired in a free-kick from distance which was easily gathered by Kevin Cuthbert early on, while at the other end, Chris Smith saw a header from Michael McGowan`s corner smack off the crossbar.

Thistle forward Chris Erskine sent a 12-yard shot wide of the left-hand upright after 35 minutes as the game remained goalless at the break.

Thomas Stewart let fly from the edge of the area but Cuthbert saved superbly, and Ayr`s response came from McGowan who drilled in a shot that Scott Fox did well to keep out.

Clear-cut chances dried up as time ticked on, with a late Sinclair free-kick clearing the crossbar.
