Higginbotham out for Partick

Kallum Higginbotham is suspended for Partick Thistle's Scottish Premiership clash with St Johnstone at Firhill on Saturday.

The midfielder picked up a red card in last week's defeat at Ross County.

Dan Seaborne (ankle) and Callum Booth (knee) are both doubtful but Sean Welsh (ankle) and Christie Elliott (broken hand) are out.

Alan Archibald is looking for his side to draw on last season's survival skills as the battle to avoid the drop hots up.

With five defeats in their last six matches, the Maryhill men are in ninth place, seven points clear of bottom side St Mirren with 10 games remaining.

Thistle survived an encounter with relegation last season, finishing just three points ahead of second-bottom Hibernian, who lost their play-off against Hamilton.

Ahead of the visit of St Johnstone, the Jags boss asked his players to draw on that experience again.

"We are in the relegation battle without a doubt," said Archibald. "We have never hid from the fact.

"We knew that a couple of weeks ago when we lost to Ross County.

"We perked up with a win against Dundee United but we lost again at the weekend to Ross County and that puts us back into that place.

"There are a lot of similarities to last season and it is the same character needed to get out of it.

"We are going into some tough matches where sometimes it is not about football, it is about getting the victory.

"Last week against Ross County was just about getting the victory and they got it, they got the first goal which proved pivotal.

"So we will need to draw on everything we did last year.

"A lot of the lads are still here, they know what is needed and some of the other guys can help them along but we need to start showing it on the pitch."

St Johnstone have Frazer Wright back in the squad after a broken nose.

Midfielder Simon Lappin remains on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Manager Tommy Wright is confident his players have the experience to know they must maintain their Celtic Park levels of performance.

Saints moved into the Scottish Premiership top six in their last encounter when Danny Swanson's stunning goal gave them a 1-0 win at Parkhead.

But Wright knows the positivity from that shock win will count for nothing if they do not approach the game at Firhill in the same way.

"It was an unexpected three points if we are truthful," Wright said. "It gives everyone a boost because every point at this stage is vital. It put us into the top six, it put us level with Hamilton and it gives us a great opportunity to kick on.

"But it is only an opportunity, we have got to grasp it. We have to make sure over the next five games, and beyond, that we make the most of how well we are playing.

"There should be enough experience in the dressing room to know the next game is the most important one, and to know that unless we put a performance in like we did against Celtic, then we could end up losing again.

"It's the same qualities - we have to work harder than the opposition. And what pleased me at Celtic was that we passed the ball so well and we have to do that, particularly away from home."
